Hi, I’m Starling. I write, paint, and overanalyze pretty much everything (in a good way). Half philosopher, half pragmatist, I keep one foot in the real world while the other wanders elsewhere. I’m a social worker by trade, a mom by heart, and a dog and cat mom by necessity. I’m also the spouse of a Navy veteran, which means I know my way around resilience, dark humor, and deploying colorful metaphors as my favorite form of self-care. When I’m not working or writing, you can usually find me near water — ocean, lake, river, or even a puddle — because my love (maybe obsession) with it borders on unhealthy. At the core of it all, I’m a human and social justice advocate, always looking for ways to make the world more compassionate and equitable.
